Freaky Friday!

miko2Well! What can I blame on Friday the 13th?
Traffic sucked. It always sucks on Friday, but today was especially bad. Except that most of the sucky places were not along my normal route, so I did well.
(As an aside... Tuesday there was a car fire that shut down two lanes on southbound I-5 and made me 19 minutes late for work. That counts as half an "incident" under our new attendence policies. Yay. But on the other hand, on Wednesday there was a massive accident on Aurora near the zoo I think, fatality I think, I forget but they mentioned on the radio around noon or 1 pm that all northbound lanes were blocked and there was a police investigation, and it wasn't going away anytime soon. And even though I go southbound I knew that would be a mess too. And I always travel this route. So I thought, I need to find another route. Then promptly forgot all about it... however, since I managed to leave the house early (a rare feat) I decided it was a perfect day to swing through Ballard and hit the Ballard Market salad bar for my lunch. Which I haven't done in many months, but I managed to do it on just the right day. I only realized later what a good choice this was, when I was at work and listening to the radio and they mentioned that the mess on Aurora had finally been cleared.)
So... back to what went wrong because of Friday the 13th.
George Bush came to town.
That in itself should probably qualify, but his motorcade missed me and did not make me late for work so I won't blame him on Friday the 13th.
The Mariners lost to the Yankees.
Naturally I can't blame this on Friday the 13th. I mean, did we expect any other result? No, of course not.
Taco Time gave me a crisp beef burrito instead of the crisp beef taco I ordered.
They charged me for it too, they just heard my order wrong. But I like crisp beef burritos so it wasn't that bad. Normally I'd order one, I just wanted something less greasy today. But I didn't get it. Still, that's general incompetence and inattention by a high schooler who's working a boring mininum-wage type job, not the result of cosmic bad luck.
Ah, but now we get to the one thing that I CAN blame bad luck for!
My favorite show of the entire week, This American Life, ran into technical problems after only the first two minutes (just enough to get me interested in the opening story). They stopped it and instead ran BBC news. Yay.
Darn you, Friday the 13th! That's my favorite show!
I can always get up and listen to it tomorrow of course (later today, I mean). Or listen to it on the web. But that's not the point. I like listening to it as part of my Friday night ritual, sort of a nice end to the work week.
The Play's The Thing was fun. But it's not quite the same.
Oh well. I find that cosmic bad luck hits every day about equally, so I can probably find things to blame on Saturday the 14th if I only look. :D
