I get tomorrow off, yay. Today should be pretty slow at work.

The last two presents I bought have arrived... books for Kristin and Ieva. Actually one arrived last week but the other only arrived yesterday. I need to drop them off, maybe tomorrow.

Thursday is time to stop at my comic shop on the way to work.

The house is a mess. Tom has had the whole week off, and said something about cleaning everything up, but of course he hasn't. Probably I would have been just as lazy. But we should start cleaning up this weekend rather than waiting until just before the writer's night on the 15th.

No plans for New Year's as of yet. But that's cool, doing nothing is always good. ^_^

I think I want to pick up two more cds. These were listed among the "best of 2004" by the Seattle Times. One is the new Green Day cd... I have most of their other stuff. They're one of those bands that I used to be a little embarassed about liking, but actually their previous cd in 2000 was not a commercial success but proved that they were a band who could grow and change and try new things. It contained a lot of accoustical stuff and Beatlesque pop songwriting, which turned off their punk fans, but a lot of it worked really well. So on their new cd, they try even more challenging things... and try to write a punk rock opera about the war in Iraq. Whether they fully succeed or not, I like that they're willing to even atempt something like that. And from what I've read they succeed more often than not, so I know I'll like it.

The other cd is Loretta Lynn's latest, which I had heard nothing about until now. It's produced by Jack White of the White Stripes and is getting mostly rave reviews, something akin to Johnny Cash's American Records cds that revitalized his career. Although apparently Jack White adds in a little garage-bank rock on some songs... big surprise. I like to plough through the reviews at Amazon.com, you can learn a lot by reading between the lines, and while about 9 out of every 10 reviews are glowing, amazing, best cd of her career or one of them, every 10th review is a very short "I hated it! It stinks!" review, which offers nothing other than it was terrible and they couldn't listen to it. In other words, as one of the positive reviewers warned, "this is not your daddy's Loretta Lynn". From what I gather it's a raw, stripped-down sound with rock intensity on some songs.

In other words, right up my alley. ^_^ I imagine that the people who hate it are the same kind of people who write about how "terrible" Gillian Welch's music is... when anyone with a brain recognizes that she's one of the most brilliant roots musicians out there.

Anyway, it's time for work!
