miko2I love politicians. They say the stupidest things. Tonight on, I think it was Press Club, they had Senator Richard Luger. On the subject of the Bolton hearings he said that they would have to do more investigation... "if there are any serious allegations... and serious allegations have been alleged."
What exactly is that supposed to mean? Things have been alleged, but they're not officially recognized as allegations yet? Talk about political doublespeak!
I also love the way speakers and politicians will give a lengthy answer to a question and then say, "That is how I would answer that question." Um, no, that is how you actually answered that question right this minute. I mean, what are we supposed to think? "I would answer that question that way, except... except what?
Anyway. ^_^ I got paid today. And I got paid today. And I got paid today. It's my anniversary of my hire, so I got one paycheck and then a second paycheck... the second one for my vacation time for this year. And then I got a third paycheck. I asked waht the third one was for, and Jim said it was for my personal vacation day that he'd mischeduled. I took that on the Monday following Norwescon, but a week ago when I tried to log in after arriving at work, I was told that "a completed timecard for today is already on file". And when I asked Jim, he checked and somehow he had scheduled me for a personal holiday that day.
All well and good... but I was actually already paid for the personal holiday that I took back on the Monday after NWcon. It says so right on my check stub, which talleys what I've been paid year to date of course. So what's with this third check for an extra 8 hours of pay? Naturally I wondered if I should have just kept quiet and cashed it, but after all honesty is always the best policy, you never know that they might realize much later that you owe them some money at a time when you can't as easily afford to return it.
But they'd entered this as a "floating holiday" which didn't make sense to either of us. Later Jim thought that, if I hadn't used my sick leave for the last year (and I never ever do), that they give you a second "personal holiday" for that. And I would get it on my anniversary date. But as far as we know they don't just cut an extra check for it, it would either be included with my vacation pay check, or else it would be like any other personal holiday, you use it to take a day off that you still get paid for.
So now I'm not really clear on this extra one-day pay check, there might be a reason for me to legitimately have it. I just have to call in the morning and ask Melissa what the deal is, before I head to the bank. ^_^
In any case I have some extra money and I can spend a little this weekend. Like, get an IPod. Or maybe just some memory for my other computer that has WinXP now. What I want to do most of all is fix my router, and if I can't get it to work properly I'm prepared to buy a new one, which would be my third router in a little over two years. And the next one will most definitely not be another Netgear router. I've always heard good things about them but in my experience (two routers now) they are garbage.
