Why I Will Burn In Hell...
May. 13th, 2005 01:32 amMy friend Darrell read "Bored of the Rings" in high school, and when he was done he burned it. I think he decided it was sacraligeous or something. Of course, later he laughed at himself for doing this. He also liked to categorize certain books such as Steppenwolf and A Clockwork Orange as "drug induced sex fantasies" or "sex induced drug fantasies" (he considered these terms interchangable). And he once described a certain Philip Jose Farmer story as the most scriligeous and disturbing thing he'd ever read.
I kind of wonder what he'd think of the book I ordered last week. It arrived today, and just a casual glance through its pages makes me think that I should probably burn it after reading it. ^_^; On the back cover is a quote from Philip Jose Farmer himself, proclaiming it "One of the greatest f--ing novels I have ever read". I'm too embarassed to mention it by name, but if I remember correctly,
berblang once owned it, and
skyrigdon once borrowed it, so if I say "it's a book by Piers Anthony", some people will know exactly what book I'm talking about.
When Darrell was my roommate he owned just about every Piers Anthony book in existance... but I know he didn't own this one, or even know it existed. It was out of print for a long time, but when I realized it was in print again, curiousity got the better of me and I decided to check it out. And I wonder if that was a good idea. ^_^; But for those of you who know what book I'm talking about, and would like to check it out without actually buying your own copy... well, feel free to borrow it from me sometime... discretely. Lol.
And if you don't know what book I'm talking about... chances are you don't want to know...
And the author has very recently published a sequel... not actually certain I'll be picking that one up. We'll see.
I also recently picked up "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris, and I'm not embarassed to say so... although I'm sure there are people out there who would condemn me to hell for laughing at David Sedaris too...
