miko2While driving home I saw a police car up ahead with its warning lights on... you know, the yellow row of flashing lights in the back window. Usually you see a cop car do this when he's going to pull off to the side behind a stranded car, but this apparently wasn't the case this time. He was driving at a normal speed and did not seem to be accompanying any other vehicle. I followed the cop car for about two miles, well behind it, unable to figure out why its warning lights were on since he wasn't rushing anywhere, pulling over for anything, or escorting anyone.
After the first mile a van behind me turned his own warning flashers on. This was just an ordinairy person, not even close to the cop car, and I had no idea why he felt the need to turn his own flashers on, but it made me feel as if something big was going down which only they could percieve. It was kind of creepy. But the truth was probably that the van driver was a complete idiot who thought that if a cop car was flashing his warning lights, then everyone should, so that everyone in the area would be warned... of what, I'm sure he didn't have a clue.
After another mile the cop turned his flashers off, and seeing this, the van did likewise.
Another mile along, the cop turned his flashers back on again. By this point the van was too far back for me to see him anymore... but another car a little ways behind me decided to turn his headlights off and back on. Once again, I felt like there was some sort of secret emergency going down and I was the only one who didn't get the memo or had failed to interpret the signs. I checked to make sure my lights were on... which they were. I looked about, but there still seemed to be no logic to it all.
And then the cop took an exit, and that was the end of it as far as I could see. I never did figure out what the warning was supposed to mean. ^_^
