They said it was going to snow last night, but I never saw anything. And this despite the fact that we had an incredibly busy night and I was there until almost 1 am -- we had around 1600 bills, which is more than we've had since late Summer I'm sure. It's supposed to be our slow season, but it hasn't been all that slow so far. Mondays are always big days, of course, and this was a Monday after four days off. Still. We are supposed to get a bonus if we exceed what the company projected for the fourth quarter -- mind you we almost never make a profit in the fourth quarter, so it would be pretty astounding if we did this year -- but since it's been really busy there's certainly hope. Busy does not always mean profitable either, but then again, not busy almost always means unprofitable, so busy is better. ^_^

Yesterday I went to Amazon to order a few things I'd been planning to order... including at least one Christmas present. I saw something in my "saved" area that I wanted (I have a tendency to place things in my basket that I intend to order sooner or later, within the next week or so, but not right at the moment -- and since I often order used, these items will drop down into the "saved" area if the one I've selected to buy becomes unavailable). There were two new cds by this band that I liked, but I was pretty certain I'd only ordered the one and not this other one yet (or else why would it still be in my saved folder? I'm usually good at removing things once I've bought them). So without checking to be certain, I added it to my order, and placed the order.

Right after doing that I went and got the mail. Guess what? My cd that I'd just ordered had arrived!

Well, that happened so fast that I still had time to cancel the order for the duplicate... but since this is a band that someone I know likes a lot and a new cd of theirs that I don't think that person owns yet, I decided I was ordering a Christmas present. Yeah, that's the ticket. I meant to do that!

I also had a ticket waiting for me from the Post Office that had arrived over the weekend -- there was a package waiting for me up at the Bitterlake station. But then I noticed a small package that Tom hadn't placed in the normal mail area... a cd that had arrived via airmail. I was suspicious that this was the other new cd by the same band as the cd I'd just recieved. The question was, did this mean that they'd delivered the package they were supposedly holding for me? They might have left the note on Friday, and then caught Tom on Saturday and had him sign for it. I had no idea.

So I left early and drove up to the post office and stood in line, and as it turned out they actually did have a package waiting for me. I got back into my car and opened both packages. As I'd suspected, the first package was the other cd by the same band. The package I picked up at the post office turned out to be the Golden Bough cd (their debut release) I'd ordered quite a while ago.

This made me very happy! I first saw Golden Bough playing during lunchtime at the little student center on the SPU campus, and it was one of my first encounters with Celtic folk music. Almost immediately I fell in love with that style of music, and I bought two of their albumns. I later got a catalogue from their label (Kicking Mule) and picked up another albumn of theirs, plus a Christmas albumn, and at some point I discovered that they had a release that predated all of these, which was only available on cassette tape. So far as I know I never owned it in albumn form. Anyway, now I own it in cd form. Yay!

The Kicking Mule catalogue is also where I picked up three albumns by Banish Misfortune, two by Caswell Carnahan, and also one by a band called Isle of Skye. The Isle of Skye one wasn't bad, but the others were all top-notch Celtic bands. I still don't have any of that on cd -- only the Caswell Carnahan albumns were ever re-released on cd, and that was from a small label back in 1995 and they're long out of print. Trying to find copies of those is one of my next goals. The others, I'll just have to make digital copies on my own from my albumns.

So anyway it was happy cd day for me yesterday, I have three new cds to listen to the rest of the week. ^_^
