Mr. Brilliant Figures It Out
Jan. 20th, 2006 10:20 pmI just loved this quote today, from a lawyer representing members of the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front, after they were indicted. (And this is loosely quoted from what I heard on the radio). "The things my clients are being charged with are crimes only because they violate government laws."
He went on, of course, to say that setting fire to ski lodges and blowing up car dealerships is not morally wrong. Sort of like flying planes into skyscrapers is not morally wrong to Osama, or torturing gays to death is not morally wrong to Pat Robertson. But I just like the first statement -- the grasp of the obvious. Oh, is that the problem? You mean that if there weren't laws against destroying other people's property, then it wouldn't be a crime? Who knew?
