miko2I walked into work yesterday, turned on my computer, and heard an announcement over the phone speakers that R was taking the system down for 45 minutes. So I had nothing to do (for more like an hour and a half) except answer the phones and tell people that the computers were down and I couldn't help them. One guy got irate and said the computers were down last week too... I didn't know what to say, I had no information to work from.
Later I learned that the computers (one of the servers) had died in spectacular fashion on Friday around 3 pm (some guy came in, fixed the bill of ladings printer, turned it on, and a server went "fzzzth chik fizzle fizzle POOF!" amid lots of sparks and smoke), and that R cobbled together enough parts to get it running by 6 pm. R took the server back down on Monday just after I walked in so that he could install REAL replacement parts into it. So... my irate customer just had bad timing is all.
My stove clock was blinking when I got back from the con, and all of my computers were off. The clock in the living room was fine (it's battery powered) and the clock in the bathroom was fine (it sets itself automatically whenever it's turned on). The vcr had not forgotten which channels were real channels, I don't know why. There were a couple of trees that looked like they'd fallen down the hillside that I could see as I drove up to my house -- no idea if that was related to the apparent weekend blackout or not. But anyway, I missed all of the (non) excitement while I was at the con. :p
I'd post more if I had anything important to add. Er, I mean if I had any more meaningless drivel from my so-called life to report. Like, for example, I did dishes and replaced one of the light bulbs in the bedroom. You know, thrilling by-the-minute blow-by-blow accounts of... well... life in Auburn....
