I've been to Folklife every year for more than ten years I'm sure. But so far this year I haven't dropped by... and I need to, at least to buy this year's tee shirts. So the plan is to do exactly that tomorrow.

Jeff came by. Jeri-Lynn likes to do as much of Folklife as is humanly possible, but Jeff doesn't need 4 full days of it, so he left his wife to her own devices (folk dancing, drumming, playing bones, etc.) and came to hang out with me.

What did we do? Well, we watched all of Love Hina vol 1 and 2 for one thing (just picked up #2 yesterday at Kinokuniya). We went to my comic shop and I picked up some comics. We stopped at a mobile taco stand and I bought a very good burrito there (authentic Mexican food -- it was a mobile kitchen really). I showed him a little Dungeon Siege and some other stuff. Later we went to dinner at Kiku's, and I only ate about half of my curry chicken over rice. It took me a moment to realize that I wasn't really hungry because of the burrito I'd eaten only a few hours earlier.

Then we came back home, finished Love Hina, talked, and watched the 2nd half of Shrek that Jeff had never seen.

Somewhere in there my mother called. She's having surgery on Thursday to remove a lump in her breast. She said it was malignant, but she doesn't sound too concerned... she's had 3 friends go through the same thing in the last 2 years, and they all pulled through okay. In any case, they really won't know more until they operate.

It's kind of scary though. You always know your parents will likely die before you do, but you just assume that's still a long ways away. Cancer is something that happens to other people -- and yet, now that I think about it, my mother's mother died while she was still young (she was still a teenager I think) and I'm not certain but I want to say she died from cancer.

Well anyway, my dad had back surgery this year and it went fine. I'll just pray for her and wait until I hear from them after Thursday before I really decide to worry.

One thing she said was that dad has carried cancer insurance for ten years, so she said she's become much more valuable...
