Well... not really, but that's what I thought for a few moments tonight.

I was at work and my eye was bothering me. I rubbed it with my hand, the same way I would to wipe sleeper gunk away... and after that my contact was bothering me, and it felt like it was coming loose or wouldn't lay flat, and so I removed it and took it downstairs to the bathroom to wash it and put it back in.

And then I saw my right eye. The white part below the cornea was yellowish and puffed up -- like the top layer had come loose, or there was liquid below the surface, or something. It looked pretty gross, and I was really freaked out for a few moments there. I've never seen anything like that before.

When I calmed down, I realized that A) It didn't hurt B) The cornea was perfectly fine and I could see just fine, and C) The most likely explanation was that I'd scratched my eye while rubbing it, or caused some sort of abrasion with my hand. My eye wasn't going to continue to puff up and fall apart, and I hadn't scratched the cornea at all since that part had been covered by my contact.

So I worked for the rest of the evening with just one contact in. By the end of the evening, my eye was back to looking perfectly normal, but I couldn't put my contact back in because there IS some sort of tear present. But since it isn't the cornea, and since it looks normal now, I'm assuming that it will heal fine as long as I leave it alone... wear glasses for at least two weeks I should think, don't rub my eye at all.

If anything changes I'll go see a doctor, but otherwise I'm sure the best thing is just to leave it alone for a good long while.
