Woooooooooooo!
Jan. 13th, 2003 10:46 pmMy car is back!
And they detailed it so it's all shiney and new and smells nice. ^_^ But the rain is falling on it so it won't be looking nice for much longer.
Still needs a stereo, need to go to Car Toys for that. Something like what I had before, a Pioneer cd/stereo.
In other news, I figured out why Tom couldn't log in to the Everquest Test Server. He was all upset all weekend because he couldn't play EQ on Test using his new computer. Tom tends to get frustrated and upset very easily with computer problems, so he doesn't think things through logically or test things to find out exactly what the problem might be, otherwise we might have figured out the problem faster. For example, he refused for most of the weekend to use my old computer to play EQ on, because he wanted his new computer to work. At one point he finally decided to use my old computer, but he double-clicked the icon on the task bar instead of single clicking, so it tried to run twice, which messed things up a little, and also I'd switched my gaming and my old computer and the old one apparently was having problems connectiong to the internet. Nothing that rebooting didn't fix, but Tom decided that when things didn't work for him IMMEDIATELY, that the universe was out to get him and technology was his foe in life, and he wasn't about to use my computer to play after all.
I assumed that his problem was related to the current patch. Since we play on the Test server, it's not uncommon for new patches to mess people up. But today I tried to log in one of my minor characters that for some reason I haven't been able to log in the last few weeks. When I tried to log in, I crashed to the desktop, which was what had happened before.
Only this time I realized that it was the same thing happening to Tom. So I asked him if he'd tried to log in any of his OTHER characters besides his main one. No, of course he hadn't. And what do you know? Hey, I can log in Thorvold! I can log in Jennie! Wow, I could have played them if I'd wanted to!
Okay, so it's a character-specific problem rather than a problem with the patch. Time to see if he can log in his main character on another computer.
Hey, look! I can log in Ivannia on your old computer!
But after moving to another zone, he still couldn't log in on his main computer. No problem, now we know that it's 1) Character specific and 2) Computer specific. That only means that it involves the character files on his computer. These files don't contain any important information, just game settings and the like -- all the actual character information is stored on the EQ servers.
So, delete the Ivannia options file and PRESTO! Tom can play again!
So I guess he's happy too. I offered to let him use my account on my computer to powerlevel his character, so I guess I'll find out when I get home if he's got me killed or not.
