There's a song on the radio...
May. 21st, 2003 01:03 pmAnother day. I wake up to KZOK, usually during their all request lunch hour, but today I slept in to almost 1 pm because I stayed up late reading and writing and went to bed at 5 am., unlike my usual 3-4 am.
Tom plays KZOK on his bathroom radio so sometimes I get it in stereo in the morning. (Hey! Noon is too "morning"!) What I like about KZOK is exactly the opposite of what KJR FM thinks is their best selling point. "No unfamiliar hard rock!" they exclaim. Hey, I love unfamiliar hard rock! As if playing the same song every single day, over and over ad nauseum, is something to be proud of. I want to be surprised with something new and cool that I've never heard before! So this morning on KZOK was some blues/boogie woogie song that I'd never heard before, and it was pretty darn cool. KJR FM, KBSG and all their ilk can go die somewhere, I don't need them.
I don't actually listen to much music on the radio. My bathroom radio is always tuned to KJR AM (sports talk) or NPR or maybe AM 1000 news radio, which is usually only when I've been listening to a Mariner's game. These are also the only stations I listen to in the car or at work on my little radio. As far as I'm concerned, if I actually want to listen to music in the bathroom, the car, or at work, then I have cds to play, and at least half the time that's what I do. But some nights I want to hear what they're saying on KJR AM, and listen to the Mariners game, and listen to my new cd, and listen to the news on NPR...
I've been working on the same few scenes for the last two weeks, usually getting a paragraph or three written each day before I go to work. Not the best way to get anywhere on a story, but at least I can say I've done something on it each day.
