My Life As An American Consumer
May. 24th, 2003 01:00 amSo... I got paid Thursday.
Picked up my comics. Only Ceres: Celestial Legend and Ghost In the Shell 2 #2 this week. Last week I had all kinds of new stuff to read, like Kodacha 7, Love Hina 14, Reality Check 2, new Mars and GTO as well. It always seems like everything comes in all at once, so one week I spend a lot of money, the next week I don't.
I got out of work a little early Thursday, and was able to stop at Tower Records before they closed. I picked up a new cd that I'd been thinking of picking up for a while, Galing Galing by Mhokira. She's from Uzbekistan, the Northwest part of China that's closest to the Middle East both geographically and culturally. Her music sounds very much like that of Oleg Fesov, a singer from Tajikistan on the other side of the old USSR/China border. I like his stuff a lot.
I also picked up an anime dvd. I kind of wanted to get Ushio and Tora or Silent Mobius 2, but they didn't have either, so I got Chobits 1.
Then when I got home, Kristin Hersh's Strange Angels had arrived in the mail. I've barely listened to her Hips and Makers, which came earlier this week... I'd ordered both off Amazon for a couple of bucks each, plus shipping and handling. I was really surprised to find that I knew the first song on Hips and Makers, which is "Your Ghost". It's one of those songs that I might have eventually forgotten forever if I hadn't heard it again, but I like it.
So... what's a guy to do when you've already got too many cds to listen to? I got up this morning and decided to order a couple more, including "Folk Lore" by Cruachan. Then I drove to Suncoast Video on the way to work, but they didn't have Ushio and Tora either, and Silent Mobius 2 was $45. Nor did they have a boxed set of You're Under Arrest, which frankly I'd be more willing to shell out big bucks for at the moment. So I left empty-handed (shock!).
But then I drove to Silver Platters and got the new cd by King's X. I wrote a review of it for Amazon and copied it over to the mostly dead
kxfans forum. I also got the first cd by the Meat Purveyors, so now I have all three of theirs.
And then, when I got home after work, I had another cd in the mail. Bomb The Twist by the 5,6,7,8's. I don't think this one should count on my list of recent purchases, since I ordered it in December 2002.
Still, that's a lot of cds in just two days. And to be honest, I actually bought more than that... 2 cds for my dad, and 2 more that are gifts for friends. So I wasn't being completely selfish in my shopping... I was actually looking for the cds for my dad, and just happened to grab a few things for myself along the way. Honest.
Oh well, as I said, it was pay day yesterday. ^_^
Oh and btw, everything I need to know I learned from watching the Mummy. Well actually, I've never seen it, but I thought this was amusing. ^_^
