miko2: Ranma disguised as a schoolgirl to fool Ryoga (Default)
So it's a lovely Saturday afternoon. Tom's at work, I have the house to myself. Kristin and everyone at Pandora House held some sort of art thing with food and croquet and whatever. I should have gone. I even had a plan to hand out copies of a cd to people. But I decided it'd be more fun to be a bum, so that's what I did: nothing.

After all, you've got to play to your strengths. Right?

I picked up my comics yesterday -- Usagi Yojimbo, Futaba-Kun Change (the last graphic novel, #8), new Silent Mobius Graphic Novel and also new Love Hina GN, and a new Inu-Yasha dvd, and Gabriel lent me another dvd called "The Twelve Kingdoms". Some sort of anime fantasy school girl travels to another world thing, you've seen it a million times, but he's right, the animation is beautiful.

Also I discovered on the shelf something cool. If I can find one cool comic or dvd each week, I'm a happy Miko. Last week was Top Ten vol. 2. This week is "Death: At Death's Door".

This is a story about Niel Gaiman's Death, set at the time when Lord Morpheous aquires the keys to Hell and Lucifer abdicates and closes up shop. This story even contains scenes from that story arc, but it's all done in a manga comic style. It's by Jill Thompson, who I believe is also the person responsible for the "super deformed baby Eternals" stories. Anyway it's quite cute. The basic premise is that when all of these tortured souls get turned out of Hell, they're not sure where to go. So they wind up at Death's house. Pretty soon there's a big party going, and Death, Delerium, and Despair have their hands full trying to deal with the situation while still performing their normal duties.

It's a dead man's party, who could ask for more?
It's a dead man's party, leave your body and soul at the door!

Lots of fun. ^_^

Death: I'm back, sisters!

Death: Um... Why are there hors d'oueurves, Delirium?

Death: And is that Mussolini doing the can-can?

Delirium: He ToOk A lOnG tImE tO lIgHtEn Up... BuT nOw, He'S a PaRtY aNiMaL.

Delirium: AnD eVeRyOnE lOvEs A pArTy...

Despair: Not everyone...

Despair: Not the Infanta Isabella... or Copernicus... Or Henry David Thoreau... or...

Despair: Well, the list is too long to... um... list.

Delirium: WeLl, NoT aLl Of ThEm ArE hErE... sO tHeY dOn'T cOuNt.

Delirium: AnD jUsT a BiT aGo, KuRt CoBaIn WaS sInGiNg A sOnG, aNd I sAw YoU hUmMiNg AlOnG... sO eVeN yOu EnJoY a PaRtY!

Now Gene will tell me that he bought this book two weeks ago and mentioned it at least twice in his journal... and I'm a bum for not noticing! ^_^
