Nov. 2nd, 2003 12:34 amI haven't thought about doing nanowrimo this year, although I've thought a lot about writing. I haven't actually written anything for several days though. I blame that my bedroom computer was down, although really I could have pulled any story except the two tai-pan stories I was most recently working on from my laptop.
Today was a bit of a cleanup day, at least for a little while. I tried to clean up part of my bedroom. I even dug through my closet a little and threw out some old shirts and pants. The funny thing is, I haven't worn anything hanging in my closet for 4 to 5 years. I hang most of my tee shirts in the closet out in the hallway, and my jeans and other stuff I put in my dresser or lay on the pile of clothing and stuff under my bed, or I just leave in the laundry basket until I use it again. So realistically I could throw just about everything in the closet away and not really notice. I didn't take the time to do that sort of thing, but at least I got rid of some of it. But I found two or three pairs of jeans that are in better shape than some of the ones I've been wearing, and they still fit so I wore one pair today.
Anyway I was expecting Jeff to come over and help me with my computer, but when he called he was with Mike and they were down at Southcenter on their way. They'd been to visit Mike (the other Mike -- Julie's Mike as opposed to Gene's Mike ^_^) and had been to Fry's and generally got a lot of computer junk. So I had time to vacuum my room a little, hop in the shower, and open the door just as they arrived, my hair still wet.
Trust me, hair down to your waist remains wet for quite a while.
And then they went back and worked on my computer, which mostly involved verifying that it was hosed and reinstalling windows. Yay! Now I have access to my important files again.
While Windoze did its thing we talked and Jeff and Mike kept picking up things that were lying around, which was kind of scary because some of that stuff has been lying there for at least ten years. You can tell by the dust. Jeff found a punch thingy that was made to punch holes in 5 1/4 floppy discs so that you could use both sides. Don't ask me why I still own such a thing.
After that Jeff went off to visit relatives, while Mike hung around until Kristin and Valentine showed up to drop off a used scanner for me. Not sure where I'm going to put it, but I could use a scanner. Mine is still broken... not fatally broken, but broken beyond my willpower to fix it. Basically the glass has fallen in, and I fixed it once before, and I'm resigned to the fact that it's a crummy design flaw and I should have a different scanner. Although the one Kristin gave me isn't perfect either, or she would have kept it. ^_^
Kristin and Valentine headed to Gene's place, (you know, where Mike lives too), and I took Mike there. When we got there they were standing outside in the cold because Gene wasn't home (and the neighbor's cat, whose name suddenly escapes me, wanted in too). So we went inside, and the rest of the evening was spent with Mike building a computer from the parts he'd bought (to be sent to his brother), making a chicken vegetable soup that was very good, Valentine building stuff with leggos and playing ball, the cat causing problems, etc. Gene got home and we brought in lots of groceries, some of which went into the soup. He had a lot of movies that he'd bought. Much later after Kristin and Valentine left, I stayed to watch some Bugs Bunny cartoons and then Raiders of the Lost Ark.
That was pretty much my Saturday. After coming home I remember that I had some sheets in the wash, and threw them in the dryer.
I also played with the laptop computer that I offered free to whoever (Chuck was interested in it). It's a 486, so it's not much... loaded with Windows 3.1, Word, a Spreadsheet, a few other things. Very slow, and the battery appears dead. But otherwise it works. Valentine and I played some minesweeper on it.
