Nov. 12th, 2003 01:27 pmSo I took Monday off because I was supposed to go testify in that trial involving my car being stolen and used to kidnap someone last year. But on Saturday they called and told me they'd rescheduled it for the following Monday. So I had Monday off, and I called work to take the next Monday off. But today they brought me the court summons and it's actually now scheduled for the 21st, a Friday.
Grrrr...
The funny thing is they came by yesterday but didn't leave the court summons because they have to deliver it to me in person. Which is the law. But it's a law that they completely ignored the first three times.
I spent most of the last two days reading "In The Net of Dreams", an old book that I always liked. I have a massive volume that contains it and the two sequels (the third story was never published in any other form). I've had it for a while, but now I'm finally getting around to reading all of them in order, front cover to back.
I'm no longer on a "blues" binge. I've been listening to classical and alternative pop music. However, some of the things I picked up on Saturday at Half Price Books qualify as blues, especially a double-disc set of Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker. I bought it mostly for the Hooker as I already have a Robert Johnson disc, but of course this one isn't quite the same as the one I have. I also picked up a cd by Phil Keaggy, a brilliant CCM guitarist. This qualifies more or less as blues-inspired music, and includes a cover of "John the Revelator" which is an old blues tune (and older than the blues probably). And then I found a Billie Holiday cd called "Billie's Blues" which is similar to the title of the cd of hers that I got a month ago, but this one does not contain "Gloomy Sunday" and in fact does contain "Strange Fruit" which was something I wanted to pick up.
Other than that, I spent Monday getting my car's oil changed and shopping. I made a list of Christmas presents to buy for people, but I didn't get much accomplished on that front. After a few hours of running around I remembered why I disliked shopping. I got some chicken and tabouli at QFC and went home to collapse in front of the television. Tom immediately told me just as I entered the house that Jeff and Jeri-Lynn wanted us to come over for dinner at six. It was just past six at that point. I was tired and didn't want to go anywhere, and I had dinner already, so Tom went over by himself and I sat and watched the final three episodes of Utena, and then Finding Nemo, which I'd picked up during my shopping spree.
