My main computer is still spewing pop-up ads. I installed Google's toolbar but it can't block pop-ups that are being generated by a program within my own computer. Spykiller said to wait 24 hours for my sekrit "unlocking" code that will allow me to actually kill these programs... it's been nearly 24 hours now and I've heard nothing. But I see that you can visit their web site, enter your e-mail address, and get the code that way... after 24 hours have passed since the purchase anyway.

The one thing that worries me is that, even though I know I entered my e-mail address correctly, they didn't force you to enter it twice. So what if I messed it up? Then I guess I get to harrass them a little or something.

The funny thing is that I got my new computer up and running just in time for my old one to reveal some serious virus/spyware infections. At least now I have AdAware installed on the three other machines which I currently have on my network... but unfortunately I've seen that AdAware doesn't catch everything. It thinks my computer is clean. After all, it's a free program... a very good one but apparently not as complete as some of the not-for-free varieties.

I finally got a reply from Spykiller... turns out I HAD typed my e-mail wrong (but who ever heard of "comast.net" as an isp?). Figures I'd do that the one time it was really important and they didn't have a double-entry to check your spelling. I suggested that they should.

But I got the key to the program and nuked my viruses. It still finds a "Cydoor" when I run it, but a search on their website said that this was just a remenant file and no longer dangerous (then why does their program keep finding it and saying it IS dangerous, I wonder?)

But overall it seems to have found and killed the parasite. I'm happy.

One other thing... when I go to their web site one of the links I click on always generates a pop-up ad of theirs. Google is supposed to kill all pop-ups -- it only allows one window per click -- but the Spykiller people apparently know how to get around that. It annoys me that a company in the spyware/adware/pop-up killer business is working so hard to allow their OWN pop-up ads to appear.

*EDIT* Nevermind... I am still getting random popup ads when I close my browser. #@$!@#$@!#$
