So my friend at work Cornelius (otherwise known as Corn Dog) is a big fan of hip hop and rap. Since he's young (and black) I guess that's no big surprise. He's the one, I might have mentioned this in a previous post, who had never even heard of Rush, and had heard of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd but didn't know any of their songs. So... basically we don't operate in the same musical universes.

I overheard him talking on the phone the other day about rap, and asked him who it was he was talking about. Turns out his favorite rap artist is Eminem. Corn Dog says that nobody can rhyme like him, and it doesn't matter about the controversy surrounding him or that he's white, he's simply better than anyone else. I've never really listened to him so I'll have to take his word. I don't listen to much rap at all... probably the only seriously rap cd I own is Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which I said was pretty good, and Corn said he owns it and it's not just good, it's brilliant. Well, I suppose it is. It probably takes a brilliant rap cd to capture my attention. ^_^

So anyway last night I was playing Call of Heroes, and one other person in my Supergroup was online, and we were talking, and I accused him and several other members of my group of playing waaaay too much. I mean, I've finally got my character to 37th level, and I have two other characters that are above level 20, but others in my group have all reached level 50 or, in the case of the guy I was talking to last night, have multiple characters above level 30, some of which he only created a month or so ago.

So he said, guilty as charged. But at least he wrote good songs in his spare time so he had a redeeming quality. I asked him what music he wrote... turns out he's a hip-hop artist, or at least working on becoming one. (He plans to produce a cd soon, will have 1,000 copies made, and will send all of us in the group a copy, so I can find out how good he really is).

Anyway I asked him who he thought the best hip-hop artist out there was. His reply? Mr. Lif. I'd never heard of him, but I suppose that's no surprise. He's not a well known name, sort of an underground artist I guess, on an independant label. But I did a little research on him and I guess there are more than a few who agree that he's very, very good.

I mentioned Eminem and my CoH friend did agree that nobody could rhyme better than him, but he added that "He's too angry at the world". Apparently he prefers Mr. Lif because he's not negative and is actually quite literate and thought-provoking.

Well, whatever that's worth. It was interesting to me. Cornelius had never heard of this Mr. Lif though. He said, "He ain't going far with a name like Mr. Lif." Joking, of course.

In other news, I watched another Inu-Yasha dvd tonight. Each one is three episodes, and they almost always end on a nasty cliffhanger, so all week I've had to grab the next dvd when I reach the end of the previous one. Tonight, however, with Kagome captured by the panther demon tribe, and with Inu-Yasha, Koga, and Seshamaru all after the panthers independent of each other, and with Inu-Yasha about to try out his newest sword power on the panther's powerful barrier around their castle...

There were no more dvds. Aaaaaaaaargh! No fair!

I *do* have the first movie on dvd, but of course what I want right now is to find out what happens next in the current storyline, not watch a completely different story. So I'll save it for tomorrow night.

Anyway I was up too late last night, so getting to bed early (for me) would be a good thing.
