Saturday went fine. I forgot I was going to try and give some stuff away, like books and my old (but not that old) video card. But anyway, Gene and Mike showed up early but I was awake and alive mostly, and Mike and I went out looking for memory for my computer and a wireless net card for my laptop. We bought the net card, and that turned into an all-evening-long session of work on the laptop. Basically I need to upgrade to Win98se, (it's an old laptop, it's running what it came with). But I can't upgrade to Win98se with the full version of Win98se that I have, because only the upgrade version will allow you to upgrade. I can back up everything and do a clean install but I really want to avoid that, I have all kinds of things on my laptop that I'd have to back up and many of them I'd have a hard time reinstalling.

But before we verified all of that, we had a bad sector to deal with, and halfway through running Scandisk from DOS, someone (I won't mention names but he's an Editor In Chief of a fanzine that many of us are involved in ^_^) dropped the cookie jar lid on my laptop keyboard... after that we had to run Scandisk again, but it wouldn't run from dos... and after that we chose to defrag the hard drive because I hadn't done that in... well, I don't think I'd ever done it. So that took pretty much forever.

But aside from that we had a good meeting. Some people didn't show up, some people showed up that we were expecting to not show, and C D and Gene read stuff, and we talked about clown pirates. There was a lot of pop and corn chowder left over, but the corn chowder went home with other people so that part wasn't my concern.

Today I did some research and came to the conclusion that I could buy memory more cheaply if I A) Drove to Puyallup, possibly Monday on the way to work or B) Ordered online and waited a few days.

But who wants to wait or drive that far? I went back to ComputerStop and paid their higher prices, which were honestly the same higher prices as most places (some places didn't even carry the type of memory I needed). So I stuffed two 512mb dims into my computer and tripled my memory, and boy can I tell the difference.

I spent a lot of the rest of the day playing City of Heroes. ^_^
