I haven't posted anything in the last two weeks but I want you to know, I've written many LJ entries in my head. Once in a while one of them actually gets written down where someone can read it. :P

I won't go into all of the Second Life stuff I've been doing the last two weeks, but one thing that this lead to was me wanting my 2nd computer in the gaming room to be Second Life capable, which my then-current computer was not. I almost bought one last Sunday but PC Club couldn't get their act together, first they had a lame motherboard, then they had no extra memory sticks to put inside, then they didn't have a copy of Windows XP to install. At that point I said no thanks. I waited all week, and Saturday I went back up to Compusave (next door to PC Club but not open Sundays) and I bought all the parts for the massive bare bones gaming platform I wanted. I spent a bit more than I intended, but I got a very nice system... AMD Athlon 64 3000 processor, 2 gig of DDR400 memory, a fairly powerful ATI video card with 256mb memory on board. 80 gig hard drive, they didn't have anything smaller. It's up and running now and it's pretty nice.

Part of what this allows me to do is to play Second Life or City of Heroes while I rip cds on my other computer. This is nice because I have a goal of getting all of my music collection onto my hard drive someday, but this project has been going slow because ripping cds it so very boring, and I couldn't really use that computer for anything else while I'm ripping cds for fear of messing up the cd ripping process. Another thing this allows me to do, of course, is to play two characters in Second Life at once, which I did last night just for the novelty of it. I do have a second account, one of their "pay one time only" accounts which cost me only $9.95 and then nothing more ever again.

Once I installed my second drive (a 160 gig that I bought a while back for the purpose of backing up my music and other files) I decided to back up my music folder. This process was supposed to take about 2 1/2 hours, but apparently just after I left the house tonight it got hung up on a file that it couldn't transfer, and so the whole time I was out it was doing nothing, waiting for me to tell it to skip that file. Nice. Still got 46 minutes to go. :p

I took my old backup gaming computer over to [livejournal.com profile] genebreshears and [livejournal.com profile] miertam 's place. After Miertam works it over it becomes a server/network backup computer for Pandora House, [livejournal.com profile] kehf and [livejournal.com profile] dehd. We had a very nice dinner with [livejournal.com profile] jeffreycornish and [livejournal.com profile] geojlc and watched Steamboy and talked.

My life is so very exciting. :p Maybe next time I'll write about my Second Life. Which is also not very exciting actually.
