Sep. 14th, 2005 01:23 amSo. I failed to pay bills today, but I managed to assemble version 1 of my "sleaze rock" complilation. Priorities, priorities... er, what are those? :p
Anyway... this is just a test version but so far includes:
New Orleans Is Sinking -- The Tragically Hip
Tear Me Down -- Hedwig & The Angry Inch
Lover Lover -- The Makers
This Is Shangrila -- Mother Love Bone
Bitch -- The Rolling Stones
Rock 'n' Roll Whore -- Toilet Boys
I Wanna Be Your Dog -- The Stooges
Babylon -- New York Dolls
You Could Be Mine -- Guns & Roses
Jealous Again -- Black Crowes
Take It Off -- The Donnas
Strychnine -- The Sonics
Brown Sugar -- The Rolling Stones
La Grange -- ZZ Top
He's Waiting -- The Sonics
Angry Inch -- Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Ride -- Toilet Boys
Dr. Feelgood -- Motley Crue
I'll need to remove some songs as I get a chance to add others from some of the cds I ordered -- Bowie, Billy Idol, Aerosmith, etc. I need to replace "You Could Be Mine" with "Welcome To The Jungle" once I have GnR's Appetite For Destruction cd. I probably need to remove the extra Toilet Boys and the extra Sonics tracks, and maybe the extra Stones track too... I alread removed a second New York Dolls track and a third Stones song ("Tumbling Dice" -- really there are so many Stones songs I could pick for this project of mine ^_^ ). Also, "Tush" might make a better choice for a ZZ Top tune than "La Grange" although both fit, but at the moment I don't have a copy of "Tush", so...
The Tragically Hip song doesn't really fit thematically, but musically it's got that bar room blues boogie thing going so that works. I've just had that song on my mind for obvious reasons and wanted to use it. Also the Sonics songs, neither of them quite fit thematically, but what the heck, musically they're not far off and I really like those songs. Really, even the first Hedwig song doesn't fit all that well, and it's one of the things that made me want to assemble this cd in the first place.
Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get my other cds in by Friday or Saturday, and I can have a better compilation put together in time to give at least Gene a copy at writer's night... and whoever else might want a compilation of this sort, I'm not sure how many of my other friends would, heh. ^_^;
One thing, my New York Dolls cd is one of those cheap "best of" collections made to stick near checkout stands so people will buy them implusively... so the sound quality isn't so great, this is not something that has ever been remastered. I'd kind of like a better sounding, remastered version of Babylon to use (assuming there is one), but I'm also not a massive NY Dolls fan so I don't know if I want to spend more money on another cd of theirs. Oh well.
