It was a lovely costume ball/party/wedding. I got there just a couple of minutes before the big vow thing started. Gene's speach was wonderful, Julie did a great job officiating, and the band rocked. Everyone looked great. ^_^

By the time I got back home I just wanted to relax so I watched the rest of my Genshiken vol. 1 dvd that I got on Saturday, and then Ah! My Goddess vol. 1, and then Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'll tell you, the one big problem I had with the movie is that they rushed things so much -- and yes I know, there was no way to fit half of the books/radio show stuff into the movie -- but they rushed things so much that they often only did half of every joke, and even when they did the full joke the timing was completely off, they'd kind of mumble the lines or the words were almost background noise to what was going on, and thus all of the jokes rarely came off. And for this particular series, the jokes are of course a HUGE part of the whole thing. I mean, the jokes are more important than the plot, really. But the movie failed to deliver most of the jokes in a way that I thought worked. So... it was an interesting movie still, but... not half as funny as it might have been.

So anyway, I've been in a bit of a Celtic mood, and I sat down and burned some of my Celtic stuff to my hard drive that wasn't there already. I need Jeff to help me make my apache server work again, I don't know much about it so I don't know why it no longer works, except that as far as I know my ip address hasn't changed... well, I don't THINK it has...

Anyway this got me to thinking about some of the great Celtic music that I have on vinyl and not on cd... so I did some searches. I got sort of excited to find a Scartaglen cd (for an outrageous price) until I realized that, oh yeah, I *HAVE* that cd, and it's not the albumn I'm thinking of, which came out before that cd and was never available on cd itself. But I did go to Connie Dover's web site, she was the singer for Scartaglen, and one of her solo cds has the song I really like... not the same version as the Scartaglen one of course, but by the same singer, so I ordered that.

I did a search on Isle of Skye and came up with nothing... they were a 1-albumn band anyway, so far as I know, and not one of the most amazing bands out there though I liked some of their songs a lot. They did a wonderful cover of Lakes of Ponchartrain, which I'd love to have on cd. Well, that will have to be another that I need to convert from my vinyl collection someday.

Banish Misfortune, same thing. Nothing ever released on cd, I need to actually convert my vinyl to mp3s or something.

Danny Carnahan has a web site, and there I learned something that's kinda frustrating. The two Caswell Carnahan albumns that I absolutely love were released on cd back in 1995. They're out of print now, of course. Grrr. But I did order two cds from Wake The Dead, his new group that is a Celtic Grateful Dead covers band I guess... sounds cool. Anything Danny Carnahan is involved in is probably very cool.

Golden Bough... I have most their old releases if you can get them on cd, but a search of Gemm.com turned up a copy of their first release on cd... I wasn't even hoping for that, really, I was just hoping to find Winding Road, I think it's called, their fourth release. The seller had the self-titled debute on cd for just over $10. They have a horrible record on filling orders though, so I won't exactly hold my breath until it arrives. But if it does, that will be very cool. ^_^ At this point I have their fifth and sixth releases on cd, their Christmas cd, and their 2nd and 3rd releases crammed onto one cd with a few songs missing, but mostly with the stuff I really liked. ^_^ If I get their debut release, then Winding Road (fourth cd) will be the only one I don't have. And if I'm desperate, they've repackaged a lot of their old music under new collections with new names... I hate that sort of practice, but I could probably manage to get most of what I'm missing that way.

The Teriyaki Stop, which used to be next to Manna Barbeque just down the road here next to the Jiffy Lube, has vanished. I went in there Saturday and was surprised to see that they'd completely redecorated the place, and that they had a new menu, and that... hmmm... this is not the same store at all anymore. The new place is called "Tic-Tac Teriyaki" and has a smiling clock as their little store symbol/mascot (which makes me think they meant to say "Tic-Toc Teriyaki"). The upside is that the new place is much cleaner, brighter, and better looking, more friendly. The downside is that they don't do the chicken and brocoli "Delight" meal that I liked. The upside is that they do Vietnamese sandwiches! It's hard to find places that do them! The downside is that they didn't put any jalapenos on my Vietnamese sandwich... that's not a Vietnamese sandwich in my book. I'll have to ask about that, sometimes they *can* do it but assume that us stupid Americans don't want spicy stuff on our sandwiches.

There's a Vietnamese restaurant a few blocks from here that does the sandwiches, but half of the time when I stop there, they aren't selling them that day. And half of the time when they are, they don't put the jalapenos on. I've learned to become very insistent with them, and to check afterwards even when they promised to do it right...
