Not So Busy Day After All
Jan. 16th, 2006 12:28 amI goofed off this morning, watched some football, and was getting ready to go in the late afternoon when the apartment manager on duty called to see if I was really coming. I took four large boxes/tubs of stuff with me down to the new place, signed a bajillion forms, and got my key to the apartment. After I moved the boxes in I checked the place out a bit. I'm not sure if there's a place to put my oversized entertainment center -- the only wall big enough in the living room has a heat register along the base. As for the bedroom, my bed should fit but I'm not sure about my big desk. I also have three small cheapo desks in the computer room which probably won't all fit in the second bedroom, so I have to decide if I really need the bigger desk in my bedroom. I really like it, it's massive and solid, but if I don't have room for it then I should probably get rid of it.
On the way home I stopped at my comic shop. I asked for a couple of comic boxes but he said he was sold out. This was bad news, as I really needed at least one for the pile of unboxed comics in my room. He went into the back room and began moving stuff about and emptied two boxes that he was using and didn't even charge me for them, and he also gave me a bunch of small broken down cardboard boxes (the kind his comics are shipped to him in) for me to pack more books and cds in. That was cool, I still have a lot of boxes but I was pretty much out of smaller boxes.
I was tired of driving around, and worried about my tabs, and was afraid that Tom would call me at 7 pm and ask me to drive down to his place. I really didn't want to spend several hours moving stuff, but I'd promised to help so I was ready to do it. I was hoping he'd just show up and give me a ride down, and I was prepared to complain a bit at least if he asked me to drive down to him. Of course, after Jeff pointed out where I could pay for my tabs online with my credit card that worry went out the window.
Tom showed up just a minute later, and instead of saying anything about moving, asked if I wanted to go to dinner. I explained that I was trying to not spend money, but Tom wanted Chinese and offered to pay, so we ran up to Chef At Wok, which was busier than I've ever seen them (apparently because of the three day weekend that some people get).
After a long wait we got our food and came back and watched some videos. Tom complained about how tired he was, how he was working 12 hour days and trying to deal with his moving problems and getting only 3-4 hours of sleep, and how he can't sleep in his own bed or work on his own computer or watch his own videos. I think relaxing and watching some anime was what he really needed to do. He fell asleep several times and probably only saw half of each episode.
So that was it. We didn't move anything, but that was probably just as well.
