Feb. 22nd, 2006 10:28 pmToday's mission was to get up early enough to go to the bank, stop at Ikea, and make it to work on time. I woke up around 9 am and figured I could sleep in another hour, but I never actually got back to sleep and finally got up about five minutes before the alarm was set to go off.
In the morning I like to sit in front of the computer for a while or lay down on the couch and read until I feel more awake. Thus, I wasted half an hour in front of the computer checking web sites, e-mail, and playing a few solitaire games. By the time I got in the shower it was 10:30. I was planning to leave by 11:00 am, but naturally with hair as long as mine, you don't just jump out of the shower, throw your clothes on, and run out the door. So I lay on the couch for a bit reading while my hair dried a little, and by the time I left it was actually 11:13 am.
I got to the bank by 11:30. Actually I was doing pretty good, because it only took me a couple of minutes to deposit my check, and Ikea is right across the street from my bank. Ikea's indoor parking area is officially closed for renovation now, so I had to double back and park on the side, then go in the side entrance. I went in the Exit -- nobody stopped me -- and quickly located the extra basket and two extra shelves that I wanted. The shelves were wrapped in clear plastic so I looked about for the pegs I needed to hold them up. Not finding any, I went to checkout, where they told me that I could get the pegs by visiting the return center on the way out.
At the return center I first noticed that they had a lot of bins on the wall for various small parts that you might need to replace. I looked through these but couldn't find the type of steel peg I needed. I took a number and waited in line. When I got to the front, the lady was a bit confused about my request, and then checked the shelves and pointed out that there was a small, red plastic bag on the end of each shelf, within the clear plastic wrapping. Here, of course, were my pegs -- they came with the shelf after all.
I made it back on the road with plenty of time to spare. I was happy to have gotten out so early in the morning to get my two errands done -- early in the morning for me, at any rate -- and decided that what I really wanted was a sausage biscuit sandwich from McDonald's. I stopped at one on the way back to work, waited in the drive through line, and was told (naturally) that they didn't serve breakfast food at 12:10 pm. I was only craving that one specific thing, so I just got back on the road and went to work, still a little hungry. :p
Tonight I set up my new shelves and everything works perfectly -- my new shelf now is capable of holding more dvds than I own, which is a very good thing from the perspective of any anime/movie fan, because I WILL own enough dvds to fill those shelves one day. ^_^
And then I can just stack them two deep, hehe.
