I R Teh Komputar Tech
Oct. 23rd, 2006 09:59 pmI am now in posession of my coworker R's computer. She says it hasn't worked since Comcast tried to install their software on it and hook it up to cable internet. She says when you turn it on, the light comes on, but nothing appears on the monitor.
I volunteered to look at it since it was just sitting dead in her apartment anyway, and since she wants to know if it's going to be expensive to fix (in which case she'll probably just get a new computer) or if it can be fixed cheaply. Not that I expect I'll be able to determine the answer to those questions on my own, but since I know some much more tech-savvy people than myself, I figured we could eventually determine if it's a cheap fix or not. It's supposed to be an old computer... it's a store bought HP Pavillion XT983, if that means anything. I don't know any more details than that yet, all I've done is to open the case and blow out the dust.
I've been doing okay sticking to my walking routine, more or less. Last week I think I only managed to walk outside two days during the week -- the other days it rained, but I got some exerecise done indoors anyway. Friday I left on my walk around 10:30, well aware that I was leaving late and would be back at 11:30 with only 45 minutes to take my shower, eat, and get to work on time. And then I suddenly realized that it was payday -- that I had a paycheck that I needed to deposit up at my credit union in Kent, which usually involves leaving about an hour early.
I debated what to do about this as I started my walk. I didn't want to not take my walk. I decided that I really did need to deposit the money, waiting wasn't a good idea. Ultimately I decided to cut the walk a bit short -- 45 minutes, or about 15 minutes up, 2 times around the forest walk loop (about 15 minutes), and about 15 minutes back. Normally I do 4 loops for about an hour of walking. Anyway, this got me back to my apartment by about 11:15, which allowed me to take a very short shower (I didn't wash my hair -- which saves a lot of time when you have hair as long as mine) and scarf down a quick breakfast, and I was able to hit the road by about 11:35 or so, and managed to get my check deposited and made it back to Auburn and to work in plenty of time.
Today I did the same sort of thing -- cut my walk short, to only 45 minutes. Really, even 45 minutes is a pretty good workout and is much much better than skipping altogether. Today my reasons were less defensible -- I stayed up very late, I slept in, I didn't get going as early as I wanted to, and I had to make sure I got back in time to shower well before 12 noon because we'd been told that the apartment complex was going to shut the water off from 12 noon to 5 pm. I was a bit worried that they might jump the gun, but I got through my shower with no problems.
Anyway, that's my exciting life for you.
