Baby it's cold outside!
Dec. 28th, 2006 10:12 pmHe's Mr. White Christmas, He's Mr. Snow,
He's Mr. Icicle, He's Mr. Ten Below.
Friends call him Snow Miser, but another name might be Wintersmith. He's the cold that sucks heat from the world. He causes fog to freeze to the road, and reportedly caused over 50 accidents on roads in the East and South of Seattle, which includes where I live. The fog, in fact, didn't lift until after noon, and as I speak the pavement is starting to grow slick once more.
Speaking of the Wintersmith... I got out my copy of The Last Hero book last night and read about half of it. I've lent three Discworld books to a coworker... Wee Free Men, Hat Full of Sky, and now Wintersmith. I was thinking that The Last Hero might be a good next book to lend her, since it has so many lovely pictures and touches on a lot of the different characters found in many of the other Discworld books. But I also thought that it might be a bit confusing to someone not familiar with those characters already... so I got down my The Art of Discworld book and flipped through that, thinking I could lend both of them at once.
And on one of the pages about Tiffany Aching and the Nac Mac Feegle, there was a line I didn't remember, in which Mr. Pratchett said, "Wintersmith and I Shall Wear Midnight may or may not get written, and may or may not have those titles."
Hmmmm. Wintersmith has, of course, been written. But I Shall Wear Midnight? And Tiffany generally doesn't like to wear black, does she?
