Technically Dreampop is a specific genre of music, although all I really know about it is that Hem is considered Dreampop (if I even have the name right) and some of the bands I put on my list fall into other genres like emo or whatever. But the point is, I went crazy and downloaded more songs from iTunes (technically I haven't been that crazy -- I spent maybe $12.00 this weekend, about $22.00 total since I signed up for iTunes). Generally I use iTunes to try out new bands and cds to see if I might like them. So, therefore, I am now very interested in picking up some Therion and Elvenking and maybe Tristania, and I checked out the newest cd by Heavenly and I can unequivically say that I will like it as much as their previous one. But I'm pretty sure I don't need to pick up any Narnia, or Penumbra, or Turisias, at least not any time soon, and I'm still undecided about Dir En Grey. I may pick up Angra someday too, or Avantasia. I didn't even download any Suidakra or whatever their name is after hearing the samples, despite thinking I was interested in them for a long time.

So... enough metal, I have a list of alternative pop bands I've been interested in for a while. So I downloaded one song each from Death Cab For Cutie, Modest Mouse, The Decembrists, and Thunderbirds Are Now! I must say that I like Death Cab and the Decembrists a lot already, they sound very much like what I was looking for. I also downloaded a song from the new Laura Veirs cd and I love it -- I have to get her new cd now! Also checked out newer cds from the band Idlewild. (Like Heavenly and Laura Veirs, I owned a cd of theirs that I loved but wasn't sure other cds would be as good -- and now I'm pretty certain I'll like their newest cd, at least, and perhaps the others as well).

I'm not really sold on the Modest Mouse song, and the jury's still out on Thunderbirds Are Now!

I've also downloaded two songs specifically because I liked that song and would probably never buy a full cd by the band -- Would You Love A Monster Man? by Lordi, and Hey Ya by Outkast.

So anyway, after my new alt-pop purchases I decided to assemble a new playlist I called "Dream Pop". Old songs and new that I liked, pretty much all alternative pop with a strong emphasis on the pop. But basically some of these songs only belong on the list in my own head, I can't explain why they belong with the other songs in a way that would make sense to anyone else:
