Oct. 24th, 2007 05:42 pmI watched the ending of Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl last night. The video series was short -- 3 dvds, about 4 episodes per DVD I think. This means they came up with an ending that worked pretty well but which really has nothing to do with the manga. For those not familiar with this title, it's essentially boy-becomes-girl, winds-up-in-yuri-love-triangle. IE most of the manga is about two girls pursuing another girl. A lot of the boy-becomes-girl plot seems to be a way to dodge the girl-on-girl theme of the manga -- ie, it's okay for the two girls to be in love with a girl because she's a boy, or at least, used to be a boy.
That's not a flattering description of the manga... but that's the essense of it. What makes it work is that the characters (the main ones anyway) are well realized, deep and complex... and the slapstick comedy of the background characters is funny. I do like the manga a lot, and the anime did a good job of translating it... except for the artificially tacked-on ending, which as I said still worked pretty well.
One of my projects over the weekend was to do some minor reworking and updating of my website. Nothing too fancy, but I didn't like how it looked and now it has a look I can live with. I changed the e-mail address shown on the various pages (the old one is the one I just got rid of, although I found a much older e-mail address on a few pages). I fixed some links that pointed back to the old web page that doesn't exist any longer, and just generally did some touch up work to make a few things look better. I need to redo my FSB pages but I have their new cd (released last year) on order so I want to wait until it arrives first. I also linked to my Livejournal, my Fanfiction.net page, and for what it's worth to my (only used to collect favorites, rarely updated) Deviantart page and my (only used to collect favorites, rarely updated) Youtube page. I also threw up a Tai-Pan link too.
My own fan fiction page is quite out of date too... I should update that.
One thing I discovered was that Melody Luke signed my fan fiction web page guest book this past Spring. I so rarely glance at that. Any of my friends who were into Elfquest fandom probably remembers Melody. ^_^
I took a walk yesterday. The weather was nice. I probably should have taken one today too, but it was overcast and trying to rain when I came home. On my walk yesterday I found a penny, at the sharp corner where the road turns almost 180 degrees in order to continue up the hillside in the opposite direction. For some reason I find coins on that corner a lot. I always pick them up and put them in my spare change jar, which (because I don't actually use cash to buy stuff that much) will probably take me 30 years to fill up. Anyway, I haven't quite figured out what it is about that corner and loose change on the road. Does someone like to toss their change out when they drive by there? Is the corner so sharp that money naturally flies out of cars when they go around that bend? The money is always scarred from being run over dozens of times, but I'd estimate in the last year or so I've picked up several dozen coins on that corner... sometimes nickels and dimes and even a quarter once.
