Nov. 13th, 2007 06:38 pmMy dad sent me an inspirational story that said right up front VERIFIED BY SNOPES, which happened to also be true (I checked). This is kind of funny because I used to check all of the stories he sent me on Snopes and invariably found them to be hoaxes, but I guess those inspirational story/virus warning e-mail forwarding types are becoming more clever these days. But anyway.
So this story is about a man named Bruce Vincent who visited the White House. He was wondering what kind of man our President was. Knowing that he was a man of faith, he asked Mr. Bush to pray for his step mother who was undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor at that very moment back in Montana!!!!!! The President took him back into the Oval Office and prayed with him right then and there, and gave him a hug while he cried!!!!!!!!!!
Well! WELL!!!!!!!!!!! As you might imagine (and as Mr. Vincent concluded), this story proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that George W. Bush is the right man to lead our country!!!!!! !!!!! Because after all, who needs a brain when you're sincere about your faith? Obviously what this country needs at the helm is not someone who knows how to compromise in order to get things done, not someone who knows when to admit they're wrong and quit before a bad situation grows even worse, not someone who actually cares about poor people at all, not someone who knows better than to lead his so-called "fiscally conservative" party on the biggest spending spree in... well, ever -- but someone who can look you in the eye and convince you that he really cares! (!!!!!!!!!!!bbq!) Clearly caring and sincerity and honest faith trump intelligence and competence and even a minimal understanding of foreign policy.
Remember, George W. Bush will not let the terrorists win! Unless by "let them win", you mean fail to capture Osama Bin Laden or Mullah Mohammad Omar, divert military resources into an unnecessary war in Iraq, fail to spend money domestically that might secure the homeland and help protect us against terrorist threats while spending billions upon billions in Iraq, lower our standing worldwide by failing to work with our allies, acting unilaterally, and engaging in the secret capture and torture of people without due process, and in general doing everything we possibly can to enhance the status of Al Quaida and drive thousands of new recruits into their arms. I mean, if that is how you're going to define "letting the terrorists win" then there's really no hope for you, you traitor.
Don't get me wrong. I do believe that the President is sincere about his faith in God. (Whether he really understands Christ's teachings and knows how to apply them to his life and his role as leader of the free world is a different story). You know, my dad is very sincere about his faith in God as well, but that doesn't qualify him to run the country. Although, on the other hand, how could he do worse?
Besides, I don't want to cast stones at anyone, but how concerned was this man for his step mother if she's in life-threatening surgery in Montana and he's off visiting the White House?
Finally let me quote directly from our inspirational and eminently quotable President: "The great thing about American is everyone should vote!" If only everyone would.
