Unholy Mess
Dec. 3rd, 2007 11:08 amI made some... something last night, for lunches for the next three days. I looked in the freezer and I had some ground turkey, so I let that thaw. I had less than a cup of brown rice left, so I put that on the stove. I decided to toss in a package of curry rice seasoning, because I've had it for years and needed to use it sometime. Brown rice takes a long time to cook, so I was doing other things and nearly let it burn. It smelled awful. Then I fried up the turkey and dumped the rice in. I realized that I hadn't really planned beyond this point, but it needed some serious help.
Here is where I would normally add in some stewed tomatoes, Italian spices, and veggies, but when I do that I don't normally have curried rice to work with. For some reason I looked for a can of stewed tomatoes anyway, but all I had was one little can of tomato paste. I opened it, and then realized that tomato paste with curry was not necessarily a good idea. But I'd opened it already, so I put it in, reasoning that it's just tomato paste, it doesn't contribute any truly weird flavors that would be diametrically opposed to the curry. Or something.
I looked for some veggies. I was certain I didn't have anything fresh in the fridge (can you tell that I need to do some shopping yet?) I thought that some water chestnuts would be perfect, but I didn't have any. Instead I had a can of bamboo shoots, so I dumped that in. I also had a can of sliced black olives, and I added that. Then I dumped in a bunch of "Sezchuan Seasoning" I had, on the theory that my burned curry needed a lot of help, and I also added some tabasco and some sesame oil. Then I actually looked in the lower drawer of the fridge and realized that I really did have some veggies to work with -- celery and green onion. I added those too.
In the end, it wasn't that bad. People at work all thought it smelled wonderful for some reason. I got a lot of comments when I heated it up.
On my list of things to accomplish yesterday:
1. work on my Christmas list. Done.
2. make lunches for work. Done.
3. Write article for Gene on "The Fine Art of Procrastination". Done.
4. Write article for Gene on "My NaNoWriMo Experience". Done.
5. Write 2,000 words on my fanfic story/novel. Failed.
6. Design a "MarStoConMo" graphic to go with my new writing goal for December. Failed.
7. Exercise. Failed.
Guess what's on my list of things to accomplish today?

My goal for the Month of December is 31,000 words on whatever projects I'm working on, but mostly my novel and the fan fiction story it's based on. I want to write 1,000 words a day.
I wrote nothing on Saturday or Sunday. But wait! Actually I wrote two articles on Sunday for the Tai-Pan. One was a 970 word article on my participation in NaNoWriMo, and one was a 1404 word article on "The Fine Art of Procrastination".
Tonight I worked on Girl's School. One of my goals is to get Chapter 12 finished and posted to Fanfiction.net as soon as possible, and maybe pust chapter 13 before the end of the month. Towards that end, I completed three partially-written scenes. I have two more to complete, and Chapter 12 will be ready to upload. My file was at 67,066 words when I started (this is a seperate file from my novel side story too -- so that's over 100,000 words written on this one story total, even though the bulk of that has yet to be published.) I was at 65,565 words when I finished, so that's about 500 words. Not what I want, but not bad over all. I'm close to my 1,000 word a day goal for the first three days of the month, so it's not a bad start.
I need to rework Gene's graphic or something though.
