May. 8th, 2008 08:42 amYesterday was payday. It was also the anniversary of my hire date, so I got my vacation check. Also, I got another small check for back-pay on a pay raise that we recently voted on.
I noticed that the federal taxes taken out of my vacation pay check were about twice that of my regular check, even though both were about equal in size (two weeks vacation pay, and I get a paycheck twice a month which is about two weeks on average). I called the main office to ask about this. The payroll person wasn't there but the office manager said she'd look at it. She called me back a few minutes later and said, "Man, you got raped!"
That's just not the sort of phrase I usually expect from my office manager. ^_^ She canceled the check and issued a new one and brought it over to me within two hours. Also, my co-worker, who also got her vacation pay check yesterday, realized the same thing had happened on her check, so she got that fixed as well. It was about $200.00 difference for me so I definitely noticed it!
After work I hit the bank. I put part of the money into savings, but I couldn't help wanting to spend a little. I drove over to Southcenter and stopped at Waldenbooks, where I picked up a couple of manga -- volumes 5 and 7 of Boy Princess (I've been meaning to fill in my collection of that for a long time) and volume 1 of Strawberry Panic, which I think was the one Sky likes... well actually I'm quite sure of it given the subject matter. They also had a Strawberry Panic "lite novel" and I decided to pick that up too.
I hit Half Price Books, where -- wouldn't you know it? They had Boy Princess vol 5 for half of what I'd paid. I grabbed a couple of dvds (March of the Penguins and Tomb Raider) and a couple of cds (the latest from Smashing Pumpkins and Concrete Blonde), and used my 15% off coupon from the calendar they give out every year.
I also noticed that Silver Platters at Southcenter is closing. Everything in the store was 40% off, and their last day is this Sunday. I wandered in not certain if I'd find anything worth buying, but despite an obviously depleted stock, I still found lots of stuff that interested me. I was bad... I bought 4 cds, for a total of about $30.00. I've been trying not to spend a lot of money, but who can resist 40% off? Anyway one of them was a present for my niece, so that's ok. ^_^ The others were cds by TV on the Radio, Skyclad, and The Gathering, all cds that I've wanted to own for a while now.
I kind of feel I should wrap two of them up and not open them for a week or two. ^_^ I mean, I already ordered a couple of cds from Amazon.com last week, so I've bought enough new music for a whole month.
What I really need to do with the extra money, aside from pay bills, is get new front tires for my car.
