AVG SUCKS

I've been meaning to write about this for a few weeks now. No, AVG Free virus protection software doesn't suck, it's a very nice free service. But they increasingly try to trick you into spending money on things. Most recently, they upgraded to their new 8.0 version and forced you to upgrade or lose service -- but the popup window to upgrade tries to get you to purchase the new version. That's not necessary of course, they still have a free version, but I had to go search for it on the interntet.

Next came a real surprise. I click through all of the regular installation stuff like I usually do, and when I'm done and surfing the internet later, what do I see stuffed into my browser window? A handy Yahoo search tool add on. I don't use Yahoo to search for anything, I don't like Yahoo, I need a Yahoo browser plug in like I need a hole in my head.

After searching around for a way to disable it, I went looking for help online. As it turns out, there IS no easy way to disable or remove it. Once it's installed, you're stuck with it. I had to uninstall AVG 8.0 completely from my computer, and then reinstall it, this time being very careful to say NO DAMN YOU I DON'T WANT YOUR POS YAHOO ADD ON INSTALLED TOO.

And I had to do this for two computers. So I had to bitch about it.

Stealth installs that you can't remove easily = teh major suck.
