The good news is that I ran AVG, Adaware, and Spybot Search & Destroy in Safe Mode and Spybot at least found some things to delete -- quite a few things in fact. And since then I haven't had another popup -- I've only had two since I reformatted last week. Still kinda holding my breath though.

I downloaded Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware program, then booted into safe mode and set it to do a full scan. It scanned. And scanned. And scanned. It scanned for the whole afternoon, while I watched football and anime and did things on my gaming machine. I kept checking on it. Then I drove to Fred Meyers, and up to Fry's through the snow, and back down to Taco Time in Auburn, then back home. I ate my tacos and watched anime.

The Malwarebyte program was still slogging through my mp3 collection on my 2nd hard drive... which wasn't likely to have any viruses in it anyway, but for some reason it wanted to take forever examining each file. I finally aborted the scan at 7 hours 20 minutes. It hadn't found anything at that point, and I don't think any virus scan should take over 7 hours to complete.

I spent a lot of my evening downloading and converting music videos so that I could put them on my new iPod. It plays videos, I figured I should have some on there. I don't know what I feel about paying for movies or videos from iTunes though. For one thing, when you look for movies there you run into full-length major studio movies and television episodes... I can't see any reason to buy stuff like that to play on my tiny little iPod screen. If I'm going to play something on the iPod it will be things I wouldn't watch on television to start with.
