Dec. 3rd, 2009 08:49 pmI'm at about 4,400 words for December so far... slightly behind where I should be, but keeping up. That's good. My story rolls along.
Made cookies tonight. I tried making "no bake" cookies with splenda instead of sugar, but I was certain I'd burned it and failed. Not surprisingly, splenda does not cook the same way as sugar, and these cookies are more candy with lots of sugar in them so how the sugar cooks down on the stove has a lot to do with how the cookie turns out.
I was annoyed so I immediately started over and made a batch using brown sugar. I didn't actually have any white sugar in the house anyway, and I doubt I want to eat very many of these cookies made with even brown sugar, but anyway... this time it seemed to work better.
But then I realized that the pot I'd set aside wasn't really as band as I'd thought. It wasn't burnt enough to taste. It didn't really cook down into a nice thick mix like it was supposed to, but I was able to roll up the results into balls with my hands and form cookies that way. At the moment I'm waiting for the other cookies to set, it takes a long time for them to really firm up, but I'm actually convinced that the first batch turned out fairly good too. I think a mix of sugar and splenda would work pretty well, especially if I added the splenda last.
I also baked brownies. These were from a mix and contain sugar, but I've had the mix for a while and needed to use it. I'll take them to work and see if people eat them.
