I got my check from the IRS Tuesday. So, to recap: In June 2007 I cashed some government bonds. In 2008 I forgot to declared these on my tax form. In April 2009 the IRS said I owed back taxes. However, both my credit union and Bank of America had reported the bonds to the IRS, so they were asking for twice as much tax as I owed. It took over a month to get Bank of America to realize and correct their error, and I sent in a check to the IRS at the last moment. I had to estimate how much I actually owed.

In October 2009 the IRS informed me that they owed me money, but this was confusingly worded to make it sound as if I owed them another 180.00 (until I read the fine print). I sent in the request for a refund in November.

To top things off, my check came with another official letter from the IRS informing me of their intent to send me a check. Only the amount they said they were sending me was slightly less than what they DID send me (the difference is about $1.00). Presumably they've paid me interest, although I suppose I wouldn't preclude them coming back to me later for their extra buck.

I think I'm going to cash my check today and drive up to Fry's. I have a $10.00 gift certificate to use there, and a couple of anime dvds that I've apparently lost and need to replace. I don't want to spend money but since I have an extra 44.00 from the IRS I should be okay.

The last two nights have been mostly fail on the writing and exercise front. I told myself that I was going to write 50,000 words this month, and I've written hardly anything. My ability to motivate myself is quite low.
