miko2Well it isn't much but I've managed to write a few things this week, on a story that is a sequel to Angel of the Pathways. The sad thing is, I had a lot of this story in my head last fall and didn't write most of it down, and now I don't remember all that I'd planned to write. But I found the file I'd scribbled a few scenes down in, and I've been adding more dialogue and half-sketched scenes.
I need to stop listening to so much NPR at work. When I listen to music is when I get inspired to write!

Nightwish: Bless The Child
This song has been stuck in my head for two weeks. They lyrics are strange and somewhat depressing (from a goth band? Say it isn't so!).
Why am I loved only when I'm gone?
Gone back in time to bless the child
Think of me long enough to make a memory
God bless the child one more time
It sounds like a lonely song about a child who is already dead, but at the end of the song are spoken words that seem to indicate that the song is really about no specific child, but the inner child we all have. The song suggests that faith and hope are things that spring out of the innocence of a child, and that we lose these things when we grow up, and then struggle to regain them. I don't know if I agree with the song's sentiments but it makes for interesting listening.
Within Temptation: Mother Earth
This is the band that's closest to Nightwish I think, but simpler and with more of a celtic feel. This song has been stuck in my head from the moment I first saw this video. It's a simple song about Mother Earth:
Birds and butterflies, rivers and mountains she creates...
She rules, until the end of time, she gives and she takes...
The Gathering: Strange Machines
This is a live concert video so it doesn't sound as good as the albumn version, but this is a very unusual and haunting song that's grown on me quite quickly:
It has always been in the back of my mind
Dreaming about going through the corners of time
I always wanted to fly in strange machines
I wanna do centuries in a lifetime
And feel it w ith my hands
Touch world war II and Cleopatra
flying...
Could it be t hat my dream would come true
Building a machine that would finally do
What I want it to do
Russian Revolution, let's do that in one day
Beethoven and Gershin, I think that would be okay
More than anything I wanna fly in strange machines
I wanna do centuries in a lifetime
And see it with my eyes
Watch Jesus rise, if he ever did
Flying...
Leaves' Eyes: Elegy
Part of their saga of the vikings sailing to the new world. Just a beautiful song. ^_^
