The phones, the phones!
May. 3rd, 2006 11:14 amI tend to go to bed around 2 am and sleep in to 10 am or so. I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every day. But for several weeks now, the phone has been ringing and waking me up between 8 and 10 am, making it hard to get enough sleep. The phone in the bedroom has the ringer turned off, but my phone in the living room is an old phone where I can't turn the ringer off. At my old place I simply couldn't hear it ring from my bedroom when I was asleep, but here I can hear it loud and clear and it wakes me up every time.
The people that make these phone calls never bother to leave a message, they just call and then hang up when they get the answering machine. I know from answering them that they are almost never trying to reach me. Usually they are trying to reach a Mr. Pak, someone who apparently had my phone line before me, and who has hundreds of clueless friends and relatives and now has at least one collection agency trying to find him, maybe more.
I often get 2-3 calls a morning, waking me up just as I drift back off to sleep. Today I got 5 calls within an hour and a half. After the third one I searched desperately for a way to turn off the ringer. When the fourth call came in I answered and screamed into the phone -- no response, they just hung up. After the fifth one I unplugged my phone. They can still call and get the voice machine, but I'm not going to hear the phone ringing. I think I might just leave it that way for a few months. ^_^
