Bookshelves are cool things

See, I haven't been forced to live in a small space for many years, so I haven't been forced to get rid of anything. And right now, I live in a three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with a large living room... all by myself. So the obvious solution when you have too much stuff is to buy things to store stuff on or in. ^_^
So today I assembled two more of the cheap $15 bookshelves from Office Depot. They fit nicely in the hallway. One of them is holding a large collection of graphic novels. The other is empty, but that's a very temporary situation.
I discovered a few things while stocking my new shelves. I've been using a handy pocket knife that my old roommate Tom left behind when he moved; I used it to open the boxes the bookshelves came in, for example. Well, while moving books around, I found a second pocket knife that Tom left here. Pocket knives can be useful, and I haven't really owned one or bought one for myself since I was a kid. Now I guess I have two. ^_^
I ran across one of the only doujinshi I own. These are fan comics published in Japan, and it's a huge industry over there. Many doujinshi have a very professional look, with slick color covers and the whole works, and many of the artists involved are very talented. More than a few professional manga artists started out doing doujinshi, and some still do fan-work under assumed names.
But when all is said and done, a lot of the fan work is just like American fan fiction -- meaning if you want endless stories of Shinji Akari and Rei Ayunami having hot steamy sex, you can do so pretty easily.
So years ago I asked a friend (Todd) to pick up some Oh My Goddess doujinshi for me, and what he got was a thick volume of mostly x-rated amatuer comic stories that included one involving the Oh My Goddess crew. I just looked through it again, and some of the other stories involve Sakura Wars, the Tenchi Gang, and a few others. I hadn't realized until then that doujinshi often equalled porn... not what I was looking for, but good for a laugh I suppose.
And the Tenchi one includes a sex scene with Tenchi and Sasami. Hmm, wouldn't that make it child pornography? Cartoon pornography anyway.
I don't know why I still own it. I should probably get rid of it.
In other news, the Mariners lost, I haven't written anything, I haven't played Neverwinter Nights yet today, I haven't called anybody or seen anyone all weekend, it's just another boring day and I suppose I'll go another full week without seeing anyone other than the people I work with. Bleah.
I also finished Marionette Generation vol 3 and Angelic Layer vol 1. I liked both, but you can really tell that Marionette Generation is written for fun and the author lets the story wander wherever he wants, while CLAMP series are usually designed to be turned into tv series, movies, merchandise, etc. Angelic Layer is cool but like Card Captors it just screams for mass marketing.
And I still say it should be called "Cybernetic Barbie Doll Smackdown". Which, really, is not a bad idea, marketing-wise. ^_^
