miko2: Ranma disguised as a schoolgirl to fool Ryoga (Default)

I was really prepared for a long, messy start to my day. I've been avoiding getting my new tabs because I knew I had time... until yesterday when I realized that today was the last day of the month. Ack! So I was expecting a long wait, maybe an hour or more, and then I might be late for work depending. My plan was to get there before noon if I could... but of course I didn't even get up much before noon and didn't head over there until 1:30.

And it took me all of five minutes. Cool! Nice start to the day.

From there I drove over to PC Stop and bought some cables... M/M patch cables for mouse, keyboard, and monitor (2 of each) and 2 power cords. I have plans to use the switchbox Mike gave me last month. I also bought a converter so that I could plug my old-style keyboard with the large plug into the switch box build for modern PS2 keyboard plugs.

When I got home, I realized that I need TWO of those converters... one to go into the back of my computer as well. And I need a converter for the mouse... the old 33mhz computer that my dad gave me uses one of those parallel type mouse connections. I used to have a mouse like that, don't have a clue where it disappeared to.

And I've also realized that my old 200mhz computer ALSO uses the old-style keyboard and mouse plugs, so I'll need 2 of each converter.

Anyway, I plugged the keyboard directly into the 33mhz machine for now, hooked up the monitor and power, and turned it on sans mouse.

It's alive! Woo!

I shall dub it BEAST 1. My other (currently dead) machine will be BEAST 2.

(I need to give all my computers names... Sky named the secondary drive on my backup computer "Gold Vanity" when we installed it, and thus I named the primary drive "Lead Vanity", but I guess the computer as a whole is "Gold Vanity". And my new computer became "Platinum Vanity", and my laptop became "Mobile Vanity", but the hard drive I named "Blue Vanity". But naming the hard drives differently from the computers is going to cause me confusion, so I should fix that. As for my Linux machine... I don't have a name for it yet since it's not fully networked.)

(I should hold a "Name My Computer" contest!)

And actually... BEAST 1 seemed to come up fairly fast, and is running WIN95, so I think maybe it's a 133mhz instead of a 33mhz... I would have explored further but without a mouse all I could do is check to see that it was in working order, then I shut it down.

I don't have a clue why, but I'm really excited that it works, and I want to network it and use it right away... for what, I have no idea. But plugging another computer into my network is absolutely a must, even if it's a beast.

Maybe I'll hook up my external cd burner to it. My really fast, 2x burner that's doing nothing for me right now except sit on the shelf.

As for BEAST 2, I hooked it up tonight and turned it on. The hard drive is clearly the problem with it... it boots fine until it looks for an operating system, then it asks for a boot disk. So probably the hard drive is dead. Maybe I'll grab a new one tomorrow when I get the other plug converters I need.

So on the way to work I stopped at Northgate Mall and tried to buy the plug converter thingies I need at Radio Shack, but they didn't have both, so instead I wandered into Suncoast, which I didn't need to do, strictly speaking, and picked up the Cardcaptor Sakura movie. Which I'm going to watch in just a few minutes here. I've watched so much CCS in the last week and a half... 6 dvd's worth, and now I want the second season (is it out yet?) But the movie should tide me over for now.

But I need a magical girl fix! I'm thinking I should pick up Magical Project S (the Pretty Sammy tv series) which I loved, what I've seen of it. I'm not sure it's on dvd or not... but it should be.

And I need to pick up a group called Hem. They were featured on The Beat/NPR yesterday as I was driving to work... very beautiful music. There was a bluegrass tune at the end that did not sound anything like Hem, but was a lovely song, and I wrote to the radio show to find out what it was... but they said they think they only played Hem, so either it's on their cd, or I need to ask them again, or maybe it was the lead-in to the Tavis Smiley show? One way or another, I need to find out, it was a cool tune. ^_^

I don't need to start any new stories So I have a new one in my head, that involves several anime characters going on an adventure in Oz. I think I'd use Sakura, Ranma, Suu, and possibly Skuld or Sasami. Why? Because I've been watching a lot of Card Captor Sakura lately, and also some Love Hina (Suu), and because Ranma 1/2, Ah! My Goddess (Skuld), and Tenchi Muyou (Sasami) are all favorite series of mine. And because I've been an Ozphile since I was a kid, and have plotted several anime/Oz crossover stories before, none of which I've actually written. And because all of the above could be considered young magical girls for the purposes of my story... Sasami/Pretty Sammy IS a magical girl, Sakura really is too although technically she's a girl who does magic, and doesn't have the normal transformation sequence... Suu apparently can turn into an older version of herself (with no real special powers, but Suu's a gadgeteer anyway)... Skuld isn't just a magical girl, she's a young goddess, and not only a gadgeteer but a computer whiz kid... as for Ranma, he's normally a 16 year old boy, but also often a 16 year old girl... and his martial artist chi abilities could be considered magic of a sort... and as for his age, there's a storyline where he and Ryoga each eat a "Mushroom of Ages" which turns them into little kids, around 3 or 4 years old I think... the mushrooms alter your age 1 year for each centimeter of the mushroom's length (typically inane Ranma 1/2 plot device). So I could use that to temporarily make Ranma the same age as the other girls...

And I don't know why I'd do that, except that weird story ideas are always popping into my head, and it's fun to throw characters from different series together.
