It was really hard to get up and go on my walk today. In the end I left at 8:41 am when I'd meant to leave at about 8:15 am, and thus I cut my walk a bit short, going up to the oh-so-cleverly-named Auburndale Park and around the trail through the woods three times instead of my customary four. That still counts for more than 50 minutes of exercise, not quite the hour I shoot for, but I didn't feel like I cheated or anything. To date since I've started doing this I have not failed to walk at least 50 minutes every morning (or early afternoon on some weekend days, heh!).

I had to get up extra early today because I had a dentist appointment in Bellevue. There was an accident on 167, and I was late for my appointment despite my best attempts to leave early and get there on time. In any case, they got right to work novacaining me up and clamping my teeth and shoving a rubber dam across my mouth and drilling away. There were two cavities -- the very big one that had produced a very noticable hole in my tooth that I'd known about for months, and a smaller one on the wisdom tooth just behind that. Both on the upper right side, very hard to get to. The big one involved a lot of drilling and went down close to the nerve, so he warned me afterwards that it could be very sensitive to cold for a while, and that there was a chance that circulation in the tooth might be impaired, leading to a future root canal. Not for certain, just a possibility. Yay. I have fillings in all of my molars but other than that I've never had a root canal or a tooth pulled or any other problems with my teeth, and these two cavities were the first I've had since I was in high school, although I did have one of the fillings from high school removed and replace a year or two ago. Mostly I've still got very good teeth, and all of my wisdom teeth still, and I just need to be more proactive about taking care of them better.

So I went to work with the side of my mouth all numb, and after it wore off I started noticing that some things were left in my mouth, like a small piece of blue rubber from the dam and small bits of gritty filling rocks. I was worried that one of the fillings was coming apart already but I don't think that's at all the case, they just left some grit in there somehow by accident. And my mouth still tasts a little funny.

Next on my agenda is to get my car looked at, something still smells when I get out of the car, a hot smell but I don't know what, like something is dripping onto a hot part of the engine or something I guess, or possibly the brakes or fan belt are getting hot, I don't know. The car seems to be running fine otherwise and the engine isn't getting very hot, but I need to have my 50,000 mile checkup anyways, and there's a Chrysler dealership less than 2 miles from my house.

I got my cd "Shonen Knife - Heavy Songs" in the mail today and I'm not happy, because while I thought I was ordering the American label English version, what I got was the Japanese import version again. It wasn't labeled as such but I know that these things can be confusing when you're dealing with used merchandise on the Amazon.com web site. I sent a note to the seller and I'll see what their reply is.

My iPod has not been connecting with iTunes for a week now. When I connect it to the computer it recharges, but until iTunes recognizes that it's there, I can't add or subtract any songs. Mostly this is a minor inconvenience because I already have 3.5 gig of music on it and I don't want to change that much, but there's a few songs that I'd like to add, and I can't.

Now, part of the problem is just Windows I know. But another part of the problem could very well be the fact that my main computer is old and doesn't have USB 2.0 ports. I had already installed iTunes on my gaming computer because of this, but never finished going through the process or trying to dock my iPod on that computer. So after waking up this morning around 4 am and not being able to fall immediately back to sleep, I embarked on a journey. First, I tried to open iTunes on the gaming computer. It immediately started importing all the music I had on my secondary drive for that computer. The problem with this is that this is my backup music drive, and hasn't been updated in a long while. I've added tens of gigs of music to my main drive since I first established my backup drive maybe a year or so ago, and I haven't bothered to back up most of that.

I started going through the list from A to Z looking for files that were on the main drive but not on the backup drive, but quickly realized that this was going to take me forever. So I took the dangerous step of just dragging my entire music folder from one drive to the other, even if it meant copying the whole thing over again. This process took many many hours the first time I did it, and I anticipated it taking many hours this time too. Especially since it will occasionally run into things that it decides to ask you about, and stops doing anything until you reply.

I went back to bed. I got up again later and checked on it, then checked on it before going on my walk, then checked on it when I came back and again before leaving for the dentist. When I got home it still wasn't done, mostly because it was waiting for me to answer a question, and so now it's still going but it's almost done.

And after all of this, I'll have all of my music backed up onto the backup drive, and I can open iTunes on the gaming computer and let it import ALL of that into its library. Which will also take a bit of time.

And then, I still haven't installed my new 300 gig drive which is to become my hew music drive. I'll have to transfer all the files from the old drive to that, but at least that will go faster since I'll have both drive hooked up to the same computer.
