Almost Back
My game computer now has Windows fully upadated (except for IE 7 which I told them not to remind me to upgrade to that again... which makes them mad, when I update they remind me that I've told them not to remind me... but I'm not using IE for anything am I?). I have nifty programs that I like installed like Mozilla Firefox, Google stuff, Irfanview, AVG Antivirus, AdAware, iTunes. I've installed City of Villians and Second Life, those are my only games that I play really (aside from solitaire). And overnight I updated my music files... as expected it took many hours but was done by the morning.
I had a bit of fun trying to install the catalyst control center for my All-In-Wonder X600 video card. Initially I'd just installed the driver and nothing else, but then I remembered that this monitor isn't such a great one and I need to adjust things to get a brighter, easier to see desktop. So off I go to install the catalyst control center. Halfway through install it tells me that it needs to have Microsoft .Net 2.0 or higher installed. It provides a link to go get it and install it, but the catalyst installer crashes at this point, it can't finish and doesn't allow you to exit or cancel correctly. And after installing .Net 2.0 it still insists that it isn't there, can't be detected, and crashes again. Because of the crashes, your first instinct is that .Net 2.0 didn't actually install correctly... so you install it again, try again, fail, do a complete uninstall and then reinstall, try again, fail...
...and then I vaguely remembered that the last time I went through this, I could never get it to see 2.0, and it only worked after I upgraded to a higher version. So I installed .Net 3.0, and everything was fine.
Now all that's left is to import my music into iTunes and then rebuild my folder for my iPod. Those should both take a few hours each to accomplish. Bleah.
But it's amazing how much better I feel just because my computer is working again!
