At work yesterday there was a woman down at the picnic tables in the dock area with cookies. Usually this means someone from the union, and I probably don't want to talk to them. I mean, I'm glad to be a Teamster, the union benefits me, but I don't need to get all gung-ho about it.

Later I saw her again and figured out that she was actually there from Costco, offering memberships. $50.00 for a basic membership (two memberships really; you get to add a second person if you want). They also had tote bags with goodies inside for anyone who signed up. I said I'd think about it.

I used to have a Costco membership years ago. I shared one with Tom. It's probably been 6-8 years since I let it lapse; at the time the membership was only $35.00, but I felt like I wasn't using it enough to justify the cost. But I wondered, might I use it more now? Would it be worth it to get one again?

Probably two things influenced my decision. One was the "limited time only" factor -- she was there offering memberships, and if I didn't take her up on it, who knows when the next chance might come around?

The other thing was that several months ago the company bought supplies for a company food thing, and I knew that they'd bought the stuff at Costco. Among what they bought were several coconut creme pies that tasted wonderful and were made without added sugar, which meant that I didn't feel like it was a bad thing for me to have a slice. Recently I tried to buy such a pie at Fred Meyers and they had nothing like it. I haven't looked anywhere else... but when considering whether to get a Costco card, that was one of the things that occurred to me. ^_^

So I have a Costco card again, or at least I will when it comes in the mail. There's one in Kent, and one right up in Federal Way which is probably closer. I haven't been inside a Costco in years, so I'll have to go check it out this weekend.
