Today's song: L.I.P. by The Presidents of the United States of America

L.I.P. stands for Little Indian Princess, which is the chorus of this song. This was one of the earlies Presidents of the United States of America songs, taken from their early demo Froggystyle, then appearing again on their second album II (this time with the abbreviated name).

Although this song is nothing special it's always been a favorite of mine, in part because I know what the song is about. The lyrics:

Little Indian Princess

If you live in the Seattle area, you know what a Dick's Restaurant is. It's the quintesential greasy burger joint, the kind that hasn't changed since the 50's. They do burgers, fries, shakes, and ice cream, and not much else. The menu is so basic that their clerks are taught to total orders in their head. It's a great place to visit, and I'm quite sorry that I really can't eat there anymore. ^_^

At the Dick's up in North Seattle near where I used to live there was a huge picture of a beefy Herford cow. I don't know if an actual "beautiful pearly statue" of a cow exists at any of the Dick's restaurants in the area, but I can put two and two together. This is a song dedicated to the Dick's cow, the "Little Indian Princess" that so many Seattleites have worshipped at the feet of for so many years while eating meat and ice cream cones. The song's no more complicated than that, although it probably confuses people who don't know what a Dick's Restaurant is and can't make the cow burger goddess connection.

Anyway, no videos or links for this one really. It's just a fun song and I like explaining what it means. I like a lot of Presidents songs -- aside from their hits, I think Tiki God, Supermodel, and Jupiter are lots of fun. I like a lot of the songs on their most recent cd too, which came out a few years ago.
