Today's Song: These Walls by Dream Theater

Today is my nephew's birthday. I have one cousin born on the day before my birthday, his brother and my nephew born the day after my birthday, and my niece was born on the 12th, which is 5 days after my birthday. So I don't celebrate just my birthday every year, but my nephew and niece's as well (my cousins don't live near here).

My nephew asked me if I had ever heard of Dream Theater. I said of course. This impressed him quite a bit; he likes them, but only one of his friends even knows who they are, so Uncle Mark scored some cool points. Only later did I remember that I could have added, "Oh yeah, and I've seen them in concert." No doubt that would have earned me more cool points.

On the flip side, I didn't know any of the songs he likes. My Dream Theater collection consists mostly of Images and Words, Awake, and another one or two cds, maybe A Change of Seasons and/or Falling Into Infinity. I'd have to check and I'm not at home right now, but it's all early stuff. I saw them in concert, with Galactic Cowboys opening, way back when they were on their first big tour after Images and Words came out. I saw them with [livejournal.com profile] berbalang and I think [livejournal.com profile] skyoxford, and one or two other people who I don't remember now. It was a pretty awesome concert.

The song that my nephew asked about first was from their cd Octavium. I've already forgotten which song he said was his favorite, but These Walls is apparently their most popular iTunes download so I'm going to assume that's the one he's heard and likes so much.

These Walls (live)
Pull Me Under will probably always be my favorite song of theirs though. ^_^

Oh... and nephew got an electric chopper bike from one uncle. He got $100.00 cash from someone else. Me? He got my old laptop, along with a copy of Dungeon Siege that I had lying around, which is a game that runs on the old laptop easily and is a fun rpg fantasy game. I knew he'd like it.

Nephew said that the other gifts were amazing, but mine "blew the others away." ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
