Today's Song: She Builds Quick Machines by Velvet Revolver
(backdated to Saturday)
The new single from the 2nd cd by "supergroup" Velvet Revolver. What makes them a supergroup? Heck if I know. Three-fifths of the band is made up of Guns 'n' Roses, with Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots on vocals. Scott's got a great voice, Duff and Slash are good at what they do, so of course it sounds good. But it's funny to read all the comments (well, for about a minute, then it gets very old) from the fanboys who hate this band because they're not STP or they're not G'n'R. Axl Rose is a first class loony and Scott sings better than him anyway, but sheesh, get over it. This is a different band.
It also amuses me how many people try to draw parrallels between Velvet Revolver and Audoslave. I mean sure, they're both hard rock groups formed by members of one band with a singer fron a different band (Audioslave = 3 members of Rage Against the Machine and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden). But does that mean they're in some sort of personal competition with each other? That they're both trying to accomplish the same things? That they even give each other the time of day? Ah well, Audioslave put out 3 cds, Velvet Revolver only has 2 so far, so Audioslave wins! Whoops, Audioslave broke up, Zach is back and Chris is out, now they're Rage Against the Machine once again... so Velvet Revolver wins! Or maybe they win because they rock harder... except that I really find Chris Cornell a more compelling vocalist and lyricist, so... whatever....
As Mick said, "It's only Rock 'n' Roll... but I like it."
She Builds Quick Machines
By the way, it's a pretty cool video... equal parts rock 'n' roll and Clint Eastwood-style western shootout, with the boys in the band killing the bad guys and rescuing an angel. What more do you want out of a 3 1/2 minute rock video?
