Today's Song: The Leather-Winged Bat by Spider John Koerner

I heard about Spider John Koerner years ago from [livejournal.com profile] julesong. He's one of two blues artists that she became interested in because they are favorite artists of her favorite science fiction author, Spider Robinson. The other blues artist is Amos Garrett, who I may feature tomorrow. In the meantime, on Spider Robinson's site you can find free music downloads of him and Amos Garrett playing together. Free is a good price!

I had always intended to check Koerner and Garrett out, but I never did get around to picking up any of their cds. It occured to me just the other day that this is what iTunes is really for. I downloaded two tracks from Koerner's cd Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Been, which is all covers of old tradtional American songs. One of the tunes I downloaded is Shenandoah, a favorite song of mine, and he does a great job on it. The other is The Leather-Winged Bat which is just a lot of fun in general. I probably need to pick up this whole cd now, I like both of these songs quite a bit.

I can't link to either song, but at least Koerner has a myspace page:
