Today's Song: Star Love by Cheryl Lynn
Cheryl Lynn was apparently a gong show contestant and winner (one of the most famous actually) before scoring a couple of disco hits. Her bigest hit was Got To Be Real but for me the follow up hit Star Love was more interesting. What sets her songs apart from the rest for me is her multi-octave vocal range, which is on full display in this particular song.
I red some comments online that her career faltered after her first cd because "big girls don't get radio airplay anymore" which is kind a a silly thing to say, because A) she actually did have a fairly successful career throughout the 80's and is still an actively touring singer, and B) quite a few disco divas who were otherwise very talented singers had their careers go downhill at the end of the disco era, and it had a lot more to do with the decline of disco than anything.
