Today's Song: Lost Again by the Dance Hall Crashers
As I said yesterday, I don't have a lot of ska cds and haven't followed the genre much, but I've been kind of aware that throughout the 1990's and into the early 2000's that there was an active Christian ska scene, and that one of the biggest bands of this scene was Five Iron Frenzy. Their name stuck in my head because I'd seen their cds in places like Silver Platter, and they all have amusing titles such as All The Hype Money Can Buy, Five Iron Frenzy 2: Electric Boogaloo and Our Newest Album Ever! (This is pretty common for third wave ska bands though -- Reel Big Fish, for example, has Our Live Album Is Better Than Your Live Album and my song of the day comes from the Dance Hall Crashers cd Honey I'm Homely.
As it turns out, Five Iron Frenzy disbanded in 2003, and nothing of theirs is available on iTunes. This means that I can't feature this particular song, which I discovered on Youtube and which I immediately loved: Cannonball - Five Iron Frenzy. I went ahead and ordered the cd this song comes from, I like it that much.
So barring that, I decided to go with a song from the one actual full-time ska band that I own a cd of. I don't remember how I came across the Dance Hall Crashers, but after all, they're an alternative rock band with two female lead singers. I tend to gravitate to music like that. This is my favorite track from their cd Honey I'm Homely. I think this was one of their biggest hits, and it's one of my favorites. It's a fun song. I also own their cd Purr.
