Today's Song: All I Want by Kenny Brown
Kenny Brown is a white blues slide guitarist and singer from Mississippi. He learned to play the blues from Mississippi Joe Callicott, Johnny Woods, and Mississippi Fred McDowell. He's also influenced by Jr. Kimbrough, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Muddy Waters, and of course R L Burnside. Unlike many white blues musicians, Kenny Brown is steeped in the rural blues of Mississippi's North Hill Country because that's where he grew up, and the musicians he learned from where his neighbors. As far as I know, Burnside's grandson Cedric Burnside still plays drums for Kenny Brown.
Now, I do have to admit that if you had to choose between Kenny Brown and R L Burnside, I'd definitely tell you to pick Burnside. Probably Kenny would tell you the same thing. But Kenny Brown's cd Stingray is a nice blues cd all the same. I like several songs from it, but in particular I've always liked All I Want. I can't link you to this particular song, but you can find the cd on iTunes.

Kenny Brown might be better known for his work with R L Burnside; the two played together from 1971 until Burnside's death in 2005. For years, R L Burnside's band was his grandson Cedric on drums and his "adopted son" Kenny on second guitar. Here they are all playing together:

Kenny and Cedric play with Samuel L. Jackson in the movie Black Snake Moan. ^_^
