Today's Song: Inside Out by The Travelling Wilburys
Travelling Wilburys - Inside Out
When I did a search on Youtube yesterday for the Eve 6 song Inside Out, I also hit the song by the same title from the Travelling Wilburys. Well, the Traveling Wilburys always rocked, so I like this song a lot too. I like pretty much everything the Wilburys did, and I'm sad that they never did a third cd. Now that both George and Roy are gone it's clear that it never will happen, but the good news is that they finally re-released the two cds and there's even some extra material. The two official releases were Vol 1 and Vol 3. Where was Vol 2? Some said that Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever counted as Vol 2, since the other Wilburys all appeared on it (they all collaborated on each other's solo albums during this time though). South thought it was a tribute to Roy to skip Vol 2, or that it was a nod to the many bootlegs out there consisting of eary studio mixes and alternate version of songs from volume 1. I've always thought it was a joke.
Long ago I made my own "Travelling Wilburys Vol 2" cd, using songs from their individual solo cds that contained other Wilbury members or seemed to fit into the overall Wilbury sound. Jeff Lynne only ever released one solo album, 1990's Armchair Theatre. He was the producer for George Harrison's Cloud 9, Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever and Into The Great Wide Open, and parts of Roy Orbison's Mystery Girl. I don't think any Dylan cds were produced by Lynne but George Harrison appears on Under the Red Sky at least, and Oh Mercy is another cd of his from the same era. You can argue that his music from around the same time sounds a bit more like Wilburys material than stuff from other eras.
Anyway, now that we have four new Wilbury tracks that you can download via iTunes, you can assemble a very good Travelling Wilburys Vol 2 of your own. The only problem is you can't find George Harrison or Jeff Lynne's work on iTunes at the moment. Nevertheless, my reccomendations (and obviously, there's enough material here for a Vol 2 and a Vol 4):
